The reuse of ancient materials falls within the more general topic of the archaism. This paper focuses on three case of reuse of ancient materials made by some kings of the 12th dynasty:the several decorated ancient block incorporated in the core of Amenemat I’s pyramid at Lisht, the ancient royal statues consecrated in the 12th dynasty temple at Karnak, and the two 4th dynasty sarcophagi interred in the complex of Sesostris III at Dahshur. The reason of these reusesis not simply utilitarian, nor the reuse is motivated by the necessity of gaining building materials or saving up.
