Two New Homeric Papyri from Oxyrhynchus
digital

Anno:
2004
This paper deals with the editio princeps of two Homeric papyri from Oxyrhynchus belonging to the Egypt Exploration Society. The first item (Iliad I 90-92; 95-100; 119-125; 128-153) contains many fragments from a roll, written in a hand resembling the ‘Chancery Style’, which can be assigned to the III cent. AD. The second one (Iliad V 197-208; 323-344; 346-367; 373-392; 396-412; 451-459; 835-853) contains several parts of a roll written in a common ‘Severe Style’ hand, datable to the II/III cent. AD. Every piece is discussed in great detail: the introduction, involving palaeographical and bibliological issues, is followed by the transcription of the text and notes of comments on particular points, mostly concerning textual variants of the new papyri in comparison with the extant direct and indirect tradition of the Homeric poem.
