At the end of the Franco-Tuscan Expedition, the two commissions divided equally the arte facts found during joint excavations. The coffins of Telesforo (Firenze, Museo Egizio, inv. no. 2165) and of Chelidonia (Louvre, inv. N. 2576) became two disiecta membra: conser ved in two different Egyptian collections. The object of the paper is therefore to shed light on the history of their discovery and their arrival in the current museum collections of Florence and Paris. The author draws to the attention many elements in common between the two specimens on the basis of iconographic analysis. Both can be defined as Graeco-Roman coffins and dated between the end of the II and the early III century A.D. Furthermore, it is hypothesized, through letters sent by Champollion and Rosellini’s writings, that the two wooden coffins come from the same Theban area excavated in 1829.
