During the months before the starting of the archaeological activities, the site was pillaged by plenty of people of the village of Shayk Abada, looking for papyri and other artifacts to sell on the black market. As a consequence of this, an important task held by the mission was to try to recover the damages done to the structures. Apart from this, the scientific work was held in several part of the city. Morevoer, another task was trying to locate one of the most important public buildings of the city, the praetorium.
